First and last Prime Minister of Thiru-Kochi - Paravoor T.K.Narayana Pillai-(1890-1971)
Sri Paravur T. K. Narayana Pillai (Paravur T. K.) became the first Chief Minister to the Newly formed Travancore Cochin state under Indian Union. He was a freedom fighter during British Raj in India, a man of deep convictions. He became the Travancore-Cochin secretary of the Indian National Congress in 1932, and its president in 1938. He was born March 25 1890, in North Paravur.
He was educated at the Union Christian College in Alwaye, Ernakulam district and graduated in Bachelor of Arts in 1911. He was unanimously elected the leader of the Indian national congress legislative party. He assumed charge as the Chief Minister (Premier) from 1'st July, 1949.
His ministry fell on 1'st March, 1951 due to political friction between two of the heavy weights in Travancore-Cochin state at that time, Sri Panampilli Govinda Menon and Sri E.John Philipose.He also was the food, labour and education minister during the next ministry which was headed by C. Kesavan, but it was short-lived as he resigned from that post on 5'th of september, 1951 due to differences with the Chief minister, C. Kesavan.
In 1952 he stood for the Indian parliament elections of and lost it from the Chirayankeezhu constituency in Thiruvananthapuram district. After this defeat he retired from politics and mainly spend his time writing articles mostly for newspapers. He was bed ridden for many years with arthritis until he died at the age of eighty.
